Marionette Lines

Did you know that marionette lines derive their name from marionette string puppets that “speak” with a moving and split jaw? This makes puppets look like they’re opening and closing their mouths. The lines on these puppets resemble lines that occur around our mouths.

These lines run vertically between your chin and mouth and result in a drooping appearance. Your genetics play a large role in the likelihood of marionette lines, although simple gravity, diet, tanning, and smoking can have a big impact.

Marionette lines develop quickly because of a loss of collagen that occurs with age and because the skin around your mouth is thinner than other parts of your body.

How can you slow down these discouraging lines?

• Avoid smoking
• Stay away from tanning beds. If you want some color to your skin tone, you can still head outside — just remember to use sunscreen!
• Have a good skincare routine with anti-aging serums, cleansers, masks, and creams.
• Get the recommended amount of sleep each night. While easier said than done, try to catch those extra Zzz’s because sleep helps boost your immune system and restore hormone levels.
• Eat food that keeps your skin vibrant. Whenever you want to make changes for a healthy body, you should talk to your doctor, dermatologist, and/or nutritionist first.
