KYBELLA® is one of the highest treatment options used to say goodbye to the pesky double chin. A double chin has a significant effect on the overall appearance of your face. Both from the front and profile, your facial contour may look less defined than you’d like if you have fullness beneath your chin. KYBELLA® is the only FDA approved cosmetic injection indicated for the improvement and appearance of submental fullness associated with the submental fat in adults.

The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that breaks down and absorbs fat by breaking down cell membranes of fat cells. When injected into the submental area, it is inducing a natural cell death of those subcutaneous fat cells in the injected area(s). At that point, the body’s immune system takes over and eliminates those dead fat cells naturally it destroys the fat cells, which are reabsorbed by the body. This process is not instantaneous and can take up to 6 – 8 weeks to see results from each treatment.

Through clinical studies KYBELLA® has had an 82.4% satisfaction rate with patients. The treatment only takes around 15 to 20 minutes, and the results are permanent. KYBELLA® patients after a series of treatments see a stronger jawline, with less fat in the under-chin area.

At Central Wellness we start with a complimentary consultation. You’ll meet one of our experts and they will complete a full assessment to ensure KYBELLA® is the right treatment option for you. The procedure time is less than 5 minutes, but please plan on 30 minutes in office visit due to pictures and final assessment. During the treatment a series of injections are made in strategic locations under the chin. Our Medical aesthetic injectors will determine how many injections need to be made to treat the entire area. There are typically between 20-40 injections (some may require more). The injections feel like mild pinches, which most tolerate very well. Most patients also experience a slight warming sensation in the moments the drug is dispersed and begins working. This sensation can last anywhere from a few minutes to several hours and can be calmed with a cold ice pack. Swelling is also to be expected and is most prominent 24 hours later. The swelling will begin to subside over the next 5-12 days. The more fat there is, the more swelling there will be as the KYBELLA® breakdown the fat cells.

Ultimately, your provider can determine if you are a viable candidate with a simple consultation. KYBELLA® might be right for you if:
• You’re bothered the appearance of your double chin
• Your double chin is making you look heavier than you actually are
• You eat well and exercise, but it doesn’t help the appearance of your double chin
• You don’t want to get surgery

The number of treatments varies from patient to patient depending on the amount and distribution of your adipose tissue (subcutaneous fat) and your personal treatment goals. Your Licensed Medical Provider will help determine how many treatment sessions you might need. With each treatment you can see up to 20- 25% reduction. The average amount used is 2-3 vials per treatment, and 2-6 treatments in a series.

After your Central Wellness KYBELLA® treatment, you will likely have some swelling, bruising & numbness that can last several weeks. These are all signs of the natural healing process. Please plan 3 weeks ahead of any special events including vacations.

As KYBELLA® treatment under the chin causes fat cells to die, results can often be permanent, as fat can’t grow back.

All injections carry the risk of bruising. If you are taking certain supplements or medications, to reduce this risk, please note the items on this list and discontinue at least 10 days before your appointment for injections. If you have been prescribed Aspirin or any prescription Blood Thinner, do not discontinue unless permitted by your prescribing physician.

Contraindications
  • Pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breast feeding
  • Recent cough, cold, virus or infection
  • Recent Kybella Injections of less than 6-8 weeks ago
Treatment Day
  • Avoid caffeine the day of the treatment to reduce discomfort.
  • Please note that there is significant swelling post injection for up to 7-10 days.
  • Please do not exercise prior to your appointment.

After Treatment
  • Ice for injection swelling and comfort may be applied. Ice for 15 minutes, followed by 20 minutes without ice. Repeat as needed for discomfort and swelling over the next 2-4 days.
  • If tolerated, take 500mg of Tylenol every 6 hours for discomfort.
  • There will be a large degree of swelling and redness immediately post-treatment. Moderate to severe swelling under the chin will be present for up to 3-7 days and is to be expected.
  • Do not participate in strenuous activity for 2-3 days following treatment.
  • Sleep with your head elevated on at least 2 and preferably 3 pillows for the first 48 hours. This will help with swelling and inflammation.
  • Do not scratch, pick or traumatize the area in any way. Do not massage or manipulate the injection site. You may experience tenderness around the treatment site.
  • Numbness at the injection site is temporary and can be expected to last anywhere from a few days to 8 weeks post-treatment.
  • Bruising at the site of injections is common.
  • Follow-up in 8 weeks for your post-injection appointment and subsequent Kybella treatments. It is important to note that additional Kybella treatments will not be done if swelling or tenderness is still present.
Important

It’s normal to have some pain and discomfort during and after the treatment. Severe pain, excessive redness, or yellow-tinged discharge could be a sign of an infection. Any significant pain, redness, irregular skin whitening, or swelling needs to be reported! Please contact the office immediately if you are experiencing any of these symptoms.
