Sculptra® is different from hyaluronic acid fillers in that it stimulates the body to produce new collagen and underlying tissue to fill in lines and wrinkles and elevate loose skin. New collagen is responsible for skin’s firmness, plumpness, and smoothness. The results of Sculptra® injections are a fuller, more youthful look. Sculptra® is used as an anti-aging treatment similar to filler or fat injections, but while those are putting foreign products into the skin, Sculptra® stimulates the body’s own natural collagen production and gradually restore volume to the area.

Sculptra® is composed of poly-L-lactic acid which is safe and easily broken down within the body. The injected Sculptra® is absorbed by the body in 2 years but the collagen it stimulates lasts 2 years or more. We love how It creates a natural and more youthful look. Who is an ideal candidate for Sculptra?

Clients who are looking for a significant increase in the volume of their faces are the best clients for Sculptra® Often clients who have had big weight loss which has led to volume loss in their cheeks can benefit greatly from Sculptra® injections. Although clients over 40 years old are often the ideal candidates, men and women under 40 can also benefit.

What are the benefits of Sculptra?

To address Facial volume loss concerns with patients at Central Wellness our Certified Medical Nurse Injectors often recommends Sculptra® for volumization and structure. Unlike many other injectable facial fillers, Sculptra® creates the production of new collagen leading to a much longer lasting result.

Where is Sculptra used?

Sculptra® is most often used to add lost volume to areas like the cheeks, temples, marionette lines, chin wrinkles, and other areas of depletion. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers that plump by drawing moisture to the injected area, collagen is stimulated over time to fill and correct.

How long does Sculptra last?

Collagen production is stimulated gradually with noticeable results typically in the first 2 sessions. Depending on the severity of aging and deficit, Central Wellness medical providers recommend between 2-4 treatments with results continuing to improve with each treatment and typically lasting approximately 2 years. To extend longevity, its recommended patients return for annual Sculptra® injections to maintain collagen growth.

What to expect with Sculptra treatments?

An initial consultation with a Central Wellness Medical Certified Injector will determine if Sculptra® is right for you. Different dermal filler options will be discussed to determine which option is best for your concerns and to get the best results. In many cases, Sculptra® may be recommended as the best option to restore volume loss in the cheeks and temple areas while other injectables may be recommended to other areas of the face for full facial rejuvenation.

After your first Sculptra® treatment natural looking results appear gradually over the next few weeks. An appointment will be made to return for a second session 4-6 weeks thereafter with a third and sometimes a fourth session recommended for maximum results.

What to expect after your Sculptra treatment

Central Wellness will provide you with specific post-care instructions with each session. You will need to massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times per day for 5 days. An ice pack is given immediately after treatment to apply for the first few minutes after treatment to help reduce swelling. Redness and slight swelling is common but typically resides within a few days thereafter

Bruising is always a risk with any injectable. It’s important to avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and Vitamin E for approximately 3 days prior to treatment to help reduce the chance of bruising. It’s also important to avoid excess sun exposure after treatment until initial swelling as resolved. Clients typically return to work and resume normal activities immediately following treatment.

Sculptra Aesthetic is a safe, synthetic, and biocompatible material that is injected below the surface of the skin. It’s made up of microspheres (a spherical shell that is usually made of a biodegradable or resorbable plastic polymer, that has a very small diameter usually in the micrometer or nanometer range, and that is often filled with a substance, as a drug or antibody, for release as the shell is degraded) of poly-L-lactic acid. Because poly-L-lactic acid is the main ingredient in Sculptra Aesthetic, patients don’t require allergy testing.

The results of Sculptra Aesthetic are not immediate. At your first treatment visit, it may appear that Sculptra worked immediately because of swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra Aesthetic. A few days following the treatment, when the swelling goes down and the water is absorbed by your body, you may look as you did before your treatment. Sculptra Aesthetic takes time to gradually correct the depression in your skin.

Avoid the use of Aspirin, NSAIDS, Ginko Biloba, Garlic Supplements, Green Tea, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamins A and E, and essential fatty acids for up to 1 week pre and post injection as they will increase your risk of bruising.
Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before (or after) your treatment to avoid extra bruising.
You may take Arnica tablets 2-3 days prior to your injection to reduce the risk of bruising.
Do not apply products that are potentially irritating for 2 -3 days before and after treatment (examples- tretinoin/retin-a, glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone.)
Inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment.
This procedure is not for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Day of Treatment

Arrive with a clean face. Please do not wear makeup.
You may experience a mild amount of tenderness or stinging during and following injection.
Redness and swelling are normal. Some bruising may also be visible.

Postcare

Ice (but avoid firm pressure) for 15 minutes 3 times a day, on the day of treatment.
You make take Acetaminophen/Tylenol if you experience any mild tenderness/discomfort.
Massage the injected areas 5 times a day, for 5 minutes in each area, for 5 days after treatment.
After treatment, there will be moderate swelling and redness with the possibility of bruising. These symptoms will resolve in about 7 days. You may apply or take Arnica tablets to help decrease the amount of bruising.
Avoid extended UV exposure until any redness/swelling has subsided. Apply SPF.
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours to reduce bruising. You may resume other normal activities/routines immediately.
Avoid laser, IPL, or skin tightening treatments of the area for at least 3-4 weeks.
You may continue your topical products as mentioned above 1 week after injection.

Important

It’s normal to have some pain and discomfort during and after the treatment. Severe pain, excessive redness, or yellow-tinged discharge could be a sign of an infection. Any significant pain, redness, irregular skin whitening, or swelling needs to be reported! Please contact the office immediately if you are experiencing any of these symptoms.
