Defy Aging: Keep Your Skin Looking Spotless

Skin spots are an unfortunate part of the aging process. But don’t fret; thankfully, in most cases, those troublesome spots, often called liver spots—although the spots have nothing to do with the liver—and in other cases sunspots, are usually harmless, and they can either be removed or diminished with professional treatment.

Defy Aging: Keep Your Skin Looking Spotless

Sunspots are incredibly common for both women and men over the age of fifty. The spots can appear anywhere, although especially on the back, face, shoulders, and neck. The spots appear when too much melanin—melanin is the pigment in the upper area of the skin—is produced and it clumps and forms spots.
There is treatment for sun spots, and ironically the treatment is a broadband light treatment. The treatment uses light therapy. The spots will effectively be diminished or eliminated altogether with treatment, and the results at the end of a course of treatments—usually four treatments spread out over a three- to four-week time span—should last for years. These treatments are both approved by the FDA and absolutely safe.

Here’s how it works…

In preparation, the skin around the treatment area is cooled with a gel, and the patient’s eyes are protected from the treatment’s bright, flashing lights. The treatment will deliver light energy into the targeted area, and the heat from the treatment will stimulate the skin cells to develop new collagen. The effect will alter the skin’s color at the site, blending it in with the surrounding skin.
Also, while most sunspots and liver spots are entirely harmless, there is a chance that skin spots could actually be melanomas; and if you have any concern—or if you have not had your skin inspected by a dermatologist—then it’s best to go in for a checkup.
