Did you know that there’s a difference between dehydrated skin and dry skin? It’s true. If you suffer from dry skin (Most everyone will experience symptoms of dry skin in their life—possibly even with seasonal frequency) it means that your skin is not producing enough of its own natural oils.
Oils are often considered to be a detrimental to skin health and appearance, but some levels of naturally occurring oils are beneficial; the beneficial oil both protects and helps to moisturize the skin. It moisturizes by retaining water that helps to keep the skin hydrated.
Dehydrated skin means that there is not enough water to effectively moisturize the skin. But how do you tell which condition you may have? What are the symptoms of both? Usually, dry skin may appear red or flaky, and it will likely itch. Dehydrated skin will have a dull appearance; facial skin may appear to have lost its natural glow.
Tips For Healthier Skin: Hydrate and Heal Dry Skin
Central Wellness stocks many products that are known to be successful treatments for both dry and dehydrated skin; you may also want to schedule a facial or spa day to help rejuvenate your skin. And there are also a few at-home tips to remember.
For instance, when you shower, shower under water that is warm but not hot. Hot water tends to dry out skin quickly. And when you wash your face don’t use the same type of soap you would use on your body; oftentimes, body soaps are designed differently than facial soaps and scrubs, and oftentimes the body soaps are much too harsh to be used on such sensitive skin as the face.
Make sure you wear sunscreen and proper clothing when you are outside, and remember that sunglasses help to protect the sensitive skin around the eyes. And remember to use a proper moisturizer (Again, this is an area of expertise for which Central Wellness is ready to help; like skin types, not all moisturizers are identical). Use the moisturizer both day and night (always immediately following a shower).
