Stretch Marks are common. Almost everyone has them. They occur as a person’s body grows, to maturity, during weight gain, and during pregnancy. But stretch marks don’t always look alike. Stretch marks can vary in appearance according to several factors:
The time span between when the stretch mark appeared and now; where on the body the stretch mark is located; what caused the stretch mark; and, the type of skin. When stretch marks appear they could look like indented lines—lines colored the same as the surrounding skin, or they could also appear pink or red—the stretch marks could be streaks in the skin colored pink, red, purple, blue, even black.
What Causes the Stretch Mark to Form?
A stretch marks appears because there is a breakdown in the dermis (the dermis is the term for one of the layers of our skin) and this type of break down is categorized as a type of skin injury. With the injury comes the scar tissue: the stretch mark. It has numerous causes. Weight gain, progressive weight which is weight gain over time, and also rapid weight and size gain (pregnancy). Stretch marks can appear in adolescence, when a child’s body undergoes a rapid growth.
Are there treatments for stretch marks?
Yes, there are stretch mark treatments; the treatments use methods intended to make the stretch mark less visible. Central Wellness uses laser treatment, which improves the color of stretch marks and improves the skin texture within the stretch mark. The skin will look smoother and cleaner, and the scars will appear much less visible and pronounced. And best of all, the treatment can be performed on all areas of the body. And it’s an in-and-out procedure, and often only requires one or a few treatments to achieve desired results (every patient is going to have different outcomes, depending upon the severity of the stretch mark).
