Skin Care Products: Antioxidants

Did you know that antioxidants are incredibly beneficial to your skin? It’s true. And that’s why skin-care products that include antioxidants in the ingredients are beneficial; antioxidants help to enhance the skin’s overall appearance and health.

Skin Care Products: Antioxidants

There are substances called free radicals that try to hurt our skin; free radicals are the bad guys included in numerous health problems, the most severe of which include systemic disease such as cancer and heart disease.
Antioxidants help protect the body from these free radicals by either slowing or altogether preventing the effects of free radicals on body tissue. Topically Antioxidants can be applied with moisturizers or lotions; if you want to include more antioxidants into your diet then include more fish, vegetables, nuts, grains, seeds, etc.
Antioxidants are effective at protecting the skin against UV Rays. Sunscreen is vitally important to skin care (You may forget to apply sunscreen in the winter months, but it is still very possible to do harm to the skin while it’s cold outside). The antioxidants in sunscreen (or other skincare product) help to protect the skin from the inside; in a way, antioxidants stand guard and protect against the sun’s harmful UV Rays from doing damage to cells.
And in addition to protection against damage, some antioxidants such as Vitamin C and Vitamin A also encourage the growth of tissue. And the protections afforded by Antioxidants also benefit the skin’s appearance, because it can help to keep away new problematic fine lines and wrinkles. Sun exposure is the number one cause of skin damage. So, remember the importance of sun block, and remember when you are outside in any season to protect your skin and your eyes from the sun: clothing that covers and protects the skin, a hat and sunglasses on sunny days.
