Micro-Needling

Micro-Needling, which is also called collagen induction therapy or CIT, is a new and innovative way to both treat skin conditions, such as fine lines and acne scars, and improve the skin’s overall appearance.

How Does Micro-Needling Work?

A device is used, called an Eclipse MicroPen, to create controlled micro-injuries on the skin’s surface; these micro-injuries will encourage the skin to produce more collagen and elastin. A benefit of the procedure is that the Eclipse MicoPen creates these micro-injuries as superficial micro-channels; these micro-channels help to create a skin surface that can better hold in creams, serums, and topical gels that help to improve the skin’s appearance.
The procedure is not overly painful, and, in many cases, is compared in discomfort to the coarseness of sandpaper on the skin. However, to reduce the amount of discomfort, a hydrating gel is applied to the skin. Amazingly, the procedure takes only fifteen to thirty minutes—the time required for treatment depends entirely on the size of the area being treated.
The downtime after a procedure is minimal. The treated areas will appear red or pink—you may also notice pinpoint bleeding, initially. And while the skin may remain pink for a few days—it may even peel—it should have healed enough to appear normal within seventy-two hours.
The results of a Micro-Needling procedure will be immediately noticeable. Likely, you will notice the skin has a glow. The changes to the appearance of the skin will develop over the course of several days and weeks. You should continue to see results from the treatment up to six months after—remember, collagen production should continue even after the skin’s surface has healed. And most patients need only one treatment every year to achieve their optimal results. But it is recommended that most patients receive a series of two-to-three treatments, and these treatments should be spaced at intervals between two-to-eight weeks’ time—frequency will be determined by the severity of the case and based on the recommendation by your skin care provider.
