Learn More: Chemical Peels

We’re hoping to enter August with a better understanding of our skin, and hopefully, you’ll learn something along the way, too. This is going to be an ongoing segment called “Skin Education,” and if there’s anything specific you’d like us to address, let us know on our Facebook! Today we’re going to be talking about chemical peels, a very scary term for a not-so-scary experience.
Our most commonly recommended peel is our Perfection Peel, which is a combination of Retinol, Salicylic Acid, and Lactic Acid. Peels are great for all sorts of skin problems, like acne, aging, and sun damage. Patients who are looking for a long-term solution for their skin should look into a peel regimen. Chemical peels are safe additions to skin care routines that encourage skin turn over and help reveal new, beautiful skin.
In the Perfection Peel, the Salicylic Acid shrinks pores, while the Retinol tones and tightens the skin and the Lactic Acid lightens acne scars, sun spots, and damage. The peel can be applied after micro-needling to penetrate deep into the skin and encourage more skin cell turnover. It’s a self-neutralizing peel, so patients cannot wash it off after the treatment for twelve hours (most patients opt for an after-work session). During the treatment, we have a large cooling system designed for laser treatments to cool the skin when the peel is first applied.
There’s about a week of “down time,” where your skin will feel tight and then flake (the dead cells peeling away to reveal better skin underneath). After the peel, we recommend sunscreen every two hours for two weeks and advise patients to avoid the sun as much as possible. Be sure to heavily moisturize the new skin as it appears and drink plenty of water. No picking or rubbing at the flaking skin (it’s still attached to healthy tissue underneath)! We recommend a set of six peels, one every thirty days for six months, to see the best results; in fact, our peels are all sold in packages of six. We can treat patients of almost all ages (older than 12) for any skin condition; our seven peels range from delicate enough for sensitive Rosacea skin to aging and scar reversal. We most commonly treat acne sufferers with our Perfection Peel, which address all types of acne, from closed comedones to cystic acne.
