Is Botox Right for Me?

Here at Central Wellness we have three goals: to help you feel great, to help you achieve great health, and to make sure you look great!  That is why we offer a wide variety of medical and aesthetic services.  One area where we get a lot of questions is about Botox.  People wonder if it’s safe, if it will last, and what does it actually do?
We want you to make an informed decision!  Let’s take a look at the questions we get about Botox here in Billings.

What Does Botox Actually Do?

Botox is technically a brand name.  Nearly 30 years ago it was discovered that this drug would help to relax muscles, and can help to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles.
As our bodies age, our muscles contract and pull against our skin differently than when we were younger.  One side effect of this is that wrinkles start to form.  While there isn’t anything physically harmful about wrinkles, most people find them a bit unsightly.  Botox injections, in a nutshell, restore a youthful look by reducing or eliminating wrinkles.
Imagine that you are in a sales position where you are repeatedly turned down.  Your pitch is perfect, you product is great, but you can’t close.  Finally a prospect lets you in on the secret: you look worn out.  Botox is a great way to help you look the way you feel!
Or perhaps you are vying for a promotion at work.  You want to make a great impression but that’s hard to do with lines and wrinkles taking the focus away from your presentation to your bosses.  Botox not only takes away that distraction, but gives you the confidence boost that you need.
Perhaps you’re a stay-at-home parent and the stress of raising kids is starting to show in your face.  While Botox treatment isn’t going to take away that stress, it can help cut back on the questions of, “Are you doing ok; because you look exhausted!”

Is Botox Even Safe?

In 2002 the FDA approved the drug for the temporary treatment of fine lines and wrinkles.  The key there is the word “temporary.”  While everyone reacts a little differently to drugs, even if your body reacts negatively, the effects will eventually wear off.
The drug is considered a neurotoxin, but don’t let the word “toxin” scare you!  Essentially what it does is block the nerve endings and help relax the muscles (it doesn’t numb the face).  Over the next week or so you will notice the lines and wrinkles seemingly fade away at the muscles continue to relax.
While the Botox is doing its job, you will notice a number of beneficial side effects.  Your skin quality will improve as the cells rest and regenerate.  You won’t sweat nearly as much (in the areas that were treated).  Your life will continue on as normal.  That’s right, you don’t have to sleep sitting up, you don’t have to skip the gym, and you don’t have to change your lifestyle!
Botox is completely safe for the vast majority of those who use it, as long as it is administered correctly.  It is a prescription drug, so only trained medical professionals, such as those we have on staff here at Central Wellness in Billings, are able to give you the proper dosage.

How Long Does a Botox Treatment Last?

Because every individual reacts differently to the drug, it is hard to specify exactly how long your treatment will last.  Also, some people notice that their lines and wrinkles aren’t quite as noticeable as a treatment wears off so they are able to go longer between follow-ups.
Generally speaking, however, most people come back for a top-up treatment every 3 to 6 months to ensure that their face maintains that youthful appearance.
