Foods that Promote Healthy Skin

There is evidence that certain foods benefit our skin. Foods that are rich in antioxidants seem to both provide beneficial nutrients and also have a protective effect. And luckily all of the foods that benefit the skin benefit the entire body. And while it’s easy to concentrate on skin health when we look at our diet, it is better to focus on eating a healthy diet, and limiting heavily processed foods and refined sugars and carbohydrates.

That means a diet that’s rich in fruits and vegetables. Nuts and seeds and legumes are all quality choices for nutrients. Sweets should be limited. And overall the healthy diet should have a person both looking and feeling terrific, but to narrow the focus, for a moment, here are the foods that should have added benefits for the skin.
Fruits and vegetables that are yellow or orange in color are good choices for skin health. And those colors are also known to protect the nervous system, promote eye health, and even help to prevent heart disease. The nutrients help to boost the immune system, and even help to build strong bones.
Green leafy vegetables are not the flashiest of vegetables, but they have tremendous benefit for the skin. Spinach and Kale and certain cabbages are rich in antioxidants, and the even protect the bones from osteoporosis and protect against other inflammatory-type diseases. There is even research that says antioxidant-rich foods can help to ward off cancer.
Legumes are the oftentimes under looked hero of a healthy diet. Legumes are rich in fiber and high in vitamins, iron, calcium, phosphorous, zinc, and magnesium, all of which are terrific for the body.
There are other foods known to benefit skin health, including salmon and other types of fatty fish, nuts, and even berries. Remember to try to stick to a healthy diet, and limit the heavily processed and refined carbs/sugars.
